Born 1928, received his mechanical Engineering Degree in 1950 from the University of Notre Dame. Captain, U.S. Marine Corps, 1950-1953. Mechanical Engineer for Chatelain, Gauger & Nolan FAIA, 1953-1958; joined Stromberg in 1958. Contributed to SMACNA (National) rewrite of Low Pressure Duct Construction Standards - 1976 Edition. In 1988 Gawne became National President of the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB); past President, Washington, D.C. Chapter of Sheet Metal Contractors; Chairman, Local 100 Apprentice Committee (since 1971); member, ASHRAE, SMACNA, MCA, Local 100 Board of Trustees, State of Maryland HVAC Review Board.

Born: 1951
Started in Construction Industry right out of High School 1969 as a Sheet Metal Apprentice with Local # 102 1969 thru 1972 and became Journeyman Mechanic July 1972.
1969-1976 Employed by Pierce Associates Alexandria Va.
1973-1985 Instructor at Sheet Metal Workers Local # 100 Training School (Part-Time)
1976 – Started at Stromberg Sheet Metal as Sketcher / Project Manager, 1984 moved into Estimating, 1987 became part of the Gawne group that purchased Stromberg in 1987, Promoted to Executive V.P. of Operations 1987. Started Service Department for small project 1988, Promoted to President of Stromberg in 2006
1987-Present Member in good standing ASPE American Society of Professional Estimators
1997- Elected President of SMCA of D.C. (Sheet Metal Contractors Association)
2002 – Contributed to SMACNA (Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association)
Rewrite HVAC Duct Construction Standards- 2005 Edition
2006 – Member of Contractors J.A.T.C (Joint Apprentice Training Committee) Local # 100.
2008- 2011 Elected to SMACNA (National) Technical Resource Committee TRC 4-year term.
2010- Elected as Chairman of J.A.T.C. (Joint Apprentice Training Committee) Local # 100.

Richard B. Freeman – Executive Vice President
Richard, (Rick) Freeman has been with Stromberg Metal Works, Inc. for twenty years and has been in the sheet metal industry for the past thirty years. Rick began his career as a Sheet Metal Apprentice in Local #102, (now Local #100) in Washington DC. He has worked his way up the management ladder in various roles through the years. Rick currently serves as a member of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association, (SMACNA) Board of Directors. He has served on numerous SMACNA National Task Forces to help promote the industry. He is also the Past-President of SMACNA’s Mid-Atlantic Chapter and is currently the Chairman of the Education Committee of SMACNA’s Mid-Atlantic Chapter. In addition, he also serves on the Advisory Committee for the DC Metropolitan Subcontractors Association, (DCMSA).
